
For the NDA examination the candidate should be 10+2 pass or equivalent, belong to the age group of 16 ½ to 19 years. The NDA exam is followed by SSB interview. The union public service commission publishes advertisements for the exam twice a year, once in March/April and another in October/November. There are 4 options available to those who join army through IMA. These are: Direct Entry, 10+2 PCM (technical) Entry Scheme, university entry scheme and the Engineering Graduate Entry.
Any candidate after graduating with a bachelors’ degree, belonging to the age group 19 to 24 years, can appear in the Combined Defense Service Examination (CDSE) and then the SSB interview for the Direct Entry Scheme. The 10+2 pass students between the age 16 ½ and 19 ½ can go for the 10+2 PCM (technical) Entry scheme. These candidates need to apply directly to the Recruitment Directorate. The candidate has to be in final or the pre-final year of engineering degree course for the university Entry Scheme. This commences in July. The applicant here needs to qualify campus interview followed by the SSB interview. For the Engineering graduates, the application is to be made to the Additional Directorate General of Recruiting (TGC), Army Head-Quarters, West block III, RK Puram, New Delhi – 110066. For engineering entry, there is a direct SSB interview. The Indian army recruits the women too for the officer ranks. The minimum educational eligibility is graduation and post graduations. The women are employed in the Short Service Commission. The candidates are allowed to appear for the SSB interview after the Army HQ screens the applications.
For the regular commissioned and short service commissioned medical officers post, the all India competitive exam is conducted by the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services. The selected candidates are trained at the Armed Forces Medial College, Pune. The recruitments for other ranks like the Jawans and the non-commissioned ranks are conducted by the Head Quarter Recruiting Zones and Branch Recruiting Offices. The advertisements appear in the local newspapers based on the locations.
