The popular three day Hampi Festival is on again amongst the ancient ruins of Hampi from January 27-29, 2011.The festival used to be held in early November each year, but last year it was moved to January to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the coronation of Sri Krishna Devaraya, an emperor of the Vijayanagar empire.
This year, the festival has started catering to the high end tourism market. The Golden Chariot is running a special trip from Bangalore, with transport in luxury Volvos to Hampi from Hospet where the train halts.
In Hospet, the Royal Orchid Central Kireeti has also opened for those who prefer staying somewhere more upmarket than the simple guesthouses in Hampi. It’s the first luxury hotel in the area.
